"European Union Officials Discuss Additional Measures to Make Artificial Intelligence Tools Like ChatGPT More Transparent to the Public" European Union officials have discussed additional measures to make artificial intelligence tools like ChatGPT more transparent to the public. Vera Jourova, Vice-President for Values and Transparency at the European Commission, stated in a speech on June 5th that companies using producer AI tools with the potential to generate disinformation should label their content to combat fake news.

Jourova: Security Measures Should Be Taken Against Disinformation
Jourova also referred to the need for companies integrating productivity artificial intelligence services like Bing Chat and Bard to implement security measures to prevent malicious actors from using them for disinformation purposes. The European Union had established the Code of Practice on Disinformation in 2018, serving as both an agreement and a tool for self-regulation standards in combating disinformation for technology industry players. Major technology companies such as Google, Microsoft, and Meta have already signed the Code of Practice on Disinformation. However, Jourova stated that these companies will be required to report on new protection measures for artificial intelligence in July. Jourova also highlighted Twitter's withdrawal from the application of the Code of Practice and emphasized the need for the company to expect increased scrutiny from regulators.
