The Fed held rates steady, and honestly, that was probably the smaller story of the day.
The vote was 9-3, the sharpest FOMC split since 2016, with three officials pushing for a hike instead of a hold. Chair Warsh's tone came across hawkish anyway, he flagged inflation still running above target, which is exactly why markets aren't fully relaxing into this.
Here's the honest disconnect: stocks got hit hard, S&P down about 1.5%, Nasdaq down 1.7%, Dow down over 2%, reportedly the worst "Fed day" reaction on record for a second meeting under a new chair. $BTC barely blinked. It held in the $64,000s through the entire announcement and press conference, basically flat on the day.
That's not nothing though. Around $400 million got liquidated in the prior 24 hours, and most of it was longs, not shorts, meaning leverage got punished even in a market that looked calm on the surface. $ETH actually underperformed BTC, down closer to 2%, still sitting roughly 60% below its all-time high from last August.
My honest read: a hawkish hold with three dissents isn't a green light, it's the Fed keeping every door open for September. Crypto shrugging it off today doesn't mean the story's closed. Earnings from Coinbase and Strategy land after today's close, so there's still more to react to before the week's done.
