Argentine banks still won’t touch crypto A central bank official just said
This year and next year Banks and payment providers won’t handle crypto
The 2022 ban remains in place Banks can’t buy or sell crypto for customers Payment apps can’t offer a buy button either
Here’s the surprising part: Argentina is one of Latin America’s biggest crypto markets But people have always bought it themselves on exchanges The banking route is still closed
Put simply, the idea of buying through banks has been pushed back by two years I don’t think this news will tank the market Holdings can stay as they are
The Financial Services Commission has singled out perpetual contracts on overseas platforms
They’re also investigating products linked to Korean stock indexes Leverage is frighteningly high You could lose your entire principal in one go
Domestic laws can’t reach them They say they’ll refer any solicitation they uncover for investigation They’re also requiring major platforms to cooperate
I see this as a signal that compliance is tightening not that they’re shutting everything down today
It hasn't been kicked out yet The rules have just been set
Non-operating companies will be screened Strategy is on the simulated list The final list comes out on November 11 It takes effect after the close on November 30
Put simply, they're keeping an eye on Companies holding too much Bitcoin
If passive funds adjust accordingly It could trigger a wave of selling pressure
We won't know the list until November I'll keep watching and won't speculate wildly
The Russian Central Bank's website puts it plainly Residents can buy and sell cryptocurrency only through licensed brokers or trading platforms registered with the Central Bank
Direct crypto exchanges between individuals aren't on the list of permitted transactions
In other words, this isn't a crypto ban It's pushing all trading through official channels
What I'm more curious to see is whether regulated platforms will absorb this wave of activity
Australia has released a draft first It’s not law yet
The Treasury is seeking public feedback Crypto transactions will need to be reported Consultation opens on October 15 And closes on the 28th
It’s modelled on international reporting frameworks And will also cover Australian residents Officials say the first exchange of information Is expected in 2028
Put simply, sooner or later platforms Will have to report Australian users’ trading records to the tax office
I see this as laying the groundwork for compliance Not something taking effect today
The SEC approved a new type of option this week It’s not a bet on stock prices It’s a bet on figures in company earnings reports Coinbase’s trading volume How many bitcoins MARA mines They can all be used as underlyings
Cash-settled at expiration Guess right and you get a fixed payout Guess wrong and it’s worth nothing
Put simply How hot the crypto market is Can now be bet on separately on regulated exchanges The product hasn’t actually been listed yet
Once it goes live I’ll be keeping an eye on the Coinbase contract first To see how much trading it gets
The Financial Services Commission just held a meeting and said it plans to change the rules: Vulnerability checks will go from once a year to at least twice a year
This comes after a recent wave of hackers targeted banks’ backend systems Some may even have used AI Previously, those peripheral systems weren’t on the list of systems subject to mandatory checks
Note that this is still a proposed direction not a rule that’s already in effect But the scope is narrowing
For now, I’m treating this as a regulatory signal and won’t change my position sizing or timing
The White House confirmed Witt’s secondment has ended No one has temporarily taken over as executive director of the crypto council
He was the council’s last public-facing member Sacks, the former crypto czar, had already left in March
This won’t directly send crypto prices tumbling but it could slow down two things One is the market structure bill which stalled in the Senate last month Law firms expect it won’t be taken up again until next year The other is the strategic Bitcoin reserve There’s one less person speaking publicly about it
My take: Don’t expect policy tailwinds in the short term I’ll first watch to see who takes the post
Late Wednesday night Beijing time The mainnet will replace the consensus mechanism it’s used since launch The new one is called Alpenglow
Right now, a transaction takes 12.8 seconds before it’s considered final After the upgrade, the target is 150 milliseconds
Note that this is only a target Actual speed will depend on network conditions
Here’s another thing that’s easy to misunderstand Validator votes are moving off-chain The number of on-chain transactions may drop noticeably That doesn’t mean nobody’s using it
$SOL Binance spot is just over a hundred I’m not betting on a price pump on upgrade day First, I’ll see how smoothly the switch goes
Walrus has pumped another leg. Binance spot hit around 0.06.
Korean spot moved first. Perp volume was more than 10 times spot volume. Funding for shorts was deeply negative for a while, which means shorts were paying longs.
The second leg was the Sui news: The DATA network is migrating to Sui, and storage will use Walrus by default. That $30 million is an investment in the project, not a buying spree for $WAL .
I’m watching to see if funding turns positive. Once it does, I’ll see if it’s still worth holding.
