#USTreasuryToBuyBackUpTo$6BLongDatedDebt 🚨💵 US TREASURY TO BUY BACK UP TO $6B OF LONG-DATED DEBT 💵🚨 The bond market had already been under pressure. Then Washington sent a signal that caught traders' attention: the Treasury was preparing to step into the long end of the market with billions of dollars in buying power. The U.S. Treasury announced a September 10 operation to purchase up to $6 billion of 10- to 20-year Treasury securities, three times the size of its previous long-dated buyback. The goal is to improve liquidity in older, less-traded securities. But here is the interesting part: Treasury yields still moved higher after the announcement, with the 10-year yield reaching around 4.85%, its highest level since November 2023. That tells me the market is looking beyond the headline. A $6B buyback can support market functioning, but it does not automatically solve bigger concerns around inflation, government borrowing, fiscal pressure, or demand for long-duration debt. For crypto, this matters because Treasury yields influence the broader cost of capital. Higher long-term yields can compete with risk assets, while improving liquidity could eventually provide a more supportive backdrop. The real signal is therefore not simply “Treasury is buying bonds.” It is whether this intervention can calm long-end markets while inflation and fiscal concerns remain elevated. When the Treasury enters the bond market, crypto traders should watch the yields. Do you think this $6B buyback can meaningfully improve liquidity, or is the bond market facing a deeper structural problem?
