#SUI What is SUI? The crypto that promises to be faster than Solana*
The *SUI* is the native cryptocurrency of the *Sui Network*, a Layer 1 blockchain built to be ultra-fast, cheap, and scalable. It was launched in May 2023 by former Meta (Facebook) employees who worked on the Libra/Diem project.
Its big differentiator is the technology behind it:
*1. Move Language:* While most use Solidity (Ethereum), Sui uses the Move language, created to be much more secure against hacks and bugs in smart contracts.
*2. Parallel Processing:* Bitcoin and Ethereum process transactions one by one. Sui can process multiple transactions at the same time. This helped it reach over 120,000 transactions per second in tests. In practice, that means nearly zero fees and instant confirmation.
*3. Object-Centric Design:* On Sui, everything is treated as an "object" (NFTs, tokens, contracts). That makes the network ideal for games, NFTs, and DeFi.
What is SUI for?
- *Paying fees (Gas):* To do anything on the network. - *Staking:* You can lock your SUI to help protect the network and earn rewards. - *Governance:* Anyone who has SUI can vote on decisions about the network’s future.
Is it worth keeping an eye on?
SUI is considered one of Solana and Aptos’ biggest direct competitors. It grew very quickly because it solves two long-standing crypto problems: speed and how easy it is for developers to create games and apps.
But like every new crypto, it’s volatile. It’s a promising long-term project focused on Web3 infrastructure, games, and decentralized finance.
