🚨The precious metal was on track for its biggest weekly decline since June, falling as much as 1.2% 📉 and trading around US$3,975 an ounce, its lowest level since July. The decline comes amid a rally in Brent crude, which topped US$115 a barrel, and growing inflation fears in the United States just days before the Federal Reserve’s (Fed) next meeting.💼
CAUSES OF GOLD’S DECLINE
According to Ryan McKay, senior commodities strategist at TD Securities, gold is “caught in risk aversion”🚨 because rising energy prices and expectations of higher interest rates are reducing its appeal as a safe haven. U.S. consumer confidence fell to its lowest level in five months, reinforcing perceptions of inflationary pressure.
Rising Treasury yields🧧, driven by capital shifting toward the safety of U.S. government debt, are also weighing on gold, as the metal tends to lose value when yields rise.
