The US economy is slowing: GDP grew only 1.5% in Q2.
But inflation is still too high—PCE in July was 3.7% versus the Fed’s target of 2%. However, in May it was 4.1%, meaning inflation is gradually declining.
🔄So it’s a vicious circle: the economy already needs support via rate cuts, but high inflation doesn’t allow it.
Moreover, the market is pricing in a 36% chance of a rate hike in September.
