### What actually happened
On September 11, 2026, major crypto market maker **Wintermute** transferred roughly **61,847 ETH** (about **$160–160.3 million**) from one of its wallets to **Binance** and **Coinbase** over a roughly 3-hour window.

On-chain trackers such as Lookonchain flagged the moves, and multiple crypto media outlets (including CryptoTimes, BlockBeats, PANews, and others) reported it. Depositing large amounts of ETH onto centralized exchanges is commonly interpreted by the market as potential selling pressure or inventory offloading, especially when it coincides with price rejection near resistance levels (ETH had been testing the ~$2,660–2,667 area before reversing). Around the same period there were also notable liquidations.

Wintermute is one of the largest algorithmic market makers in crypto. These transfers can represent inventory management, hedging, OTC facilitation, or directional selling — the on-chain data alone doesn’t prove the exact intent, but the timing and size drew significant attention and “Wintermute is dumping ETH” commentary across X and crypto news.

### The other side of the story: Wall Street / institutional buying
