#baby $BABY While analyzing a stablecoin position, I noticed something interesting the Bitcoin never actually moved into a company wallet, yet the system still treated it as collateral.

At this point, Babylon starts to look stronger than the traditional custody model. Native BTC can stay locked under vault conditions instead of being wrapped into a token backed by a custodian’s promise. One major failure point disappears: a custodian can’t freeze or mismanage coins it never holds.

But that doesn’t mean the stablecoin is automatically safe.

BABY still relies heavily on vault accounting. The system has to correctly map which UTXO backs which obligation, track total debt precisely, and ensure liquidation triggers are executed at the right time. Native custody reduces custodial risk, but poor accounting can reintroduce systemic risk in a different form.

What often gets overlooked is the gap between asset control and balance-sheet accuracy. Babylon may keep Bitcoin out of custodial reach, but the stablecoin can still become undercollateralized if vault state tracking, debt records, or liquidation timing fall out of sync.

That distinction matters for Babylon because the real promise isn’t just “BTC stays native.” The harder requirement is that every stablecoin claim must remain perfectly aligned with real collateral at all times.

I like the custody design. But I’m still watching the ledger layer closely, because that’s usually where clean architecture starts to break down.

On July 27, Nvidia, Microsoft, Meta, and other companies jointly issued a public letter titled “Open-Weight Models and U.S. AI Leadership,” continuing to expand the signatories. The signing organizations have grown from the initial 25 to 77.

Among them, SpaceX has drawn the most attention. Previously, Musk had only reposted Huang Jen-hsun’s posts on X, saying, “Completely support—Jensen is right.” At the time, the company had no signature. Now, SpaceX has officially appeared on the list.

The letter asks the U.S. government not to restrict open-weight AI models that can be downloaded and deployed on their own too early, and to handle normal distillation and illegal extraction differently. Anthropic has still not signed.

Report: The Trump administration is set to finalize an AI voluntary self-regulation framework

About two weeks ago, the Office of the National Cyber Director at the White House circulated a draft of the framework to OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. The three companies jointly submitted their respective proposed revisions.

According to The Information, citing three people familiar with the matter, the U.S. is close to finalizing a voluntary framework that would require AI companies to submit their most advanced models to the government for review before releasing them to the public.

The report says it is not yet possible to determine key details of how the model review process would work.

Earlier, U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent was involved in developing the proposal to emulate the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) model, creating an independent AI regulator funded by the industry, accountable to the SEC, and allowing participation from both the technology and finance sectors in setting safety standards.

The backdrop to the proposal is that Anthropic and OpenAI had previously publicly expressed dissatisfaction over government involvement in their model release processes.
