The stock Backpack brought on-chain today was a bit unexpected.
It wasn’t NVIDIA or Apple,
but The Cheesecake Factory ($CAKE)—
the restaurant chain known for its cheesecakes and American fare.
On October 28, Backpack Securities brought $CAKE to Solana.
It can be traded 24/7 and redeemed 1:1 for the corresponding traditional stock through Backpack Exchange.
What I find interesting isn’t that this restaurant has suddenly become some hot tech stock.
It’s that tokenized stocks are expanding beyond the familiar tech giants into more industries.
More importantly, these stock tokens aren’t just available through Backpack’s own trading interface—they can also be accessed through other apps in the Solana ecosystem.
That’s why I continue to follow @Backpack.
If stock tokens can only be bought and sold on a single platform, that’s more like just getting a new way to access the market.
But if they can move between different wallets, trading apps, and financial protocols, they could have the potential to support a wider range of use cases.
Of course, being on-chain doesn’t guarantee sufficient liquidity, nor does it mean every app can offer the same trading experience.
Those things will take time to prove.
But I’m looking beyond which stock Backpack will list next.
