Thailand has confirmed a policy that exempts personal income tax on capital gains (from the sale of Bitcoin and other digital assets).
Key points to note:
• The 0% tax rate applies only when transactions are carried out through exchanges, brokers, or dealers licensed by the SEC of Thailand.
• Effective period: from 01/01/2025 to 31/12/2029 (5 years).
• Transactions on overseas exchanges or platforms that are not licensed remain subject to the usual regulations (which may be as high as 35%).
This is a clear move to encourage investors to use domestic regulated platforms, increase transparency, and strengthen Thailand’s position in the race to attract crypto capital flows in Southeast Asia.
