#USTreasuryToBuyBackUpTo$6BLongDatedDebt 🚨 U.S. TREASURY TO BUY BACK UP TO $6 BILLION IN LONG-DATED DEBT The U.S. Treasury is preparing to buy back up to $6 billion of 10- to 20-year Treasury bonds in its September 10 operation — roughly 3× the size of its previous long-dated buyback. The move comes as long-term Treasury yields have climbed sharply, with the 10-year yield reaching around 4.85%, its highest level since November 2023. Why is the Treasury doing this? The buyback program is designed primarily to improve liquidity in older, less-liquid Treasury securities and help the functioning of the long-end bond market. Treasury had previously announced that long-dated buybacks would increase from a previous maximum of $2B to at least $4B per operation through the remainder of the refunding quarter. What does this mean for markets? Bonds: A larger buyback could provide additional demand for targeted securities and support market liquidity. Yields: The immediate reaction has been the opposite of a clear relief rally. The 10-year yield moved higher after the announcement, showing that investors may have expected a larger intervention. Stocks: Elevated long-term yields can keep pressure on equity valuations because higher discount rates increase the cost of capital. Bitcoin & Crypto: This is where traders should pay attention. A sustained decline in Treasury yields could eventually improve broader financial conditions and support risk assets such as BTC. But today's buyback should NOT automatically be interpreted as a bullish crypto catalyst. The bigger variables remain: • Treasury yields • Fed policy expectations • Dollar liquidity • U.S debt issuance • Global risk sentiment The key takeaway The headline is $6B, but the bigger story is the stress visible in the long-end Treasury market. If yields continue climbing despite larger buybacks, markets may remain cautious. If Treasury liquidity improves and yields begin trending lower, risk assets could eventually benefit. $IOST $KAT $COTI
