With Covenants, the idea is to keep instructions encrypted until a defined condition is satisfied. The instruction could depend on a price reaching a certain level or a specific time arriving. Until then, the intention remains protected while the transaction can still use public blockchain infrastructure.

Dusk, the first release of Covenants, is now live on Ethereum mainnet. For me, the important part is not simply that another product has launched. It is that developers can begin testing whether encrypted instructions solve problems that actually exist in financial applications.

But there are difficult questions ahead.

Privacy mechanisms must be secure, execution must be dependable, and costs must remain reasonable. Developers also need to understand what happens when conditions change, instructions fail, or users need to cancel an order. Institutions may have additional compliance obligations that privacy alone cannot resolve.

These details will matter more than the initial narrative.

I believe Nillion is exploring a useful part of blockchain infrastructure, but its long-term value will depend on real usage rather than technical possibility alone.

If Covenants can protect sensitive intentions without adding excessive friction, traders, auction platforms, and automated applications may have a genuine reason to adopt it.

That is the test worth following.
