*Initial Concept*

- Ethereum was first described in a white paper by Vitalik Buterin in late 2013. Buterin, a programmer and co-founder of Bitcoin Magazine, argued that blockchain technology could have other applications besides money.
- Buterin collaborated with eToro CEO Yoni Assia on the Colored Coins project and put together a white paper explaining other use cases for blockchain technology. However, after failing to reach an agreement on how the project should proceed, he proposed the development of a new platform with a more powerful scripting language.

*Development*

- Ethereum was officially announced at the North American Bitcoin Conference in Miami in January 2014. Gavin Wood, Charles Hoskinson, and Anthony Di Iorio joined as co-founders.
- Ethereum development began in early 2014 through the Swiss company, Ethereum Switzerland GmbH (EthSuisse). The development team created several prototypes before launching the main network.

*Launch*

- Ethereum launched on July 30, 2015, with a genesis block containing 8,893 transactions that allocated ether to various addresses.
- Since its initial launch, Ethereum has undergone several planned protocol upgrades to improve the platform's functionality and incentive structure.

*Main Features*

- Ethereum allows the creation of decentralized applications (dApps) and smart contracts that can be executed automatically when certain conditions are met.
- The platform also allows the creation of unique tokens (NFT) and fungible tokens (ERC-20) that can be used for various purposes.
