Sei's airdrop has been full of twists and turns, from Xiao Tiantian to Mrs. Niu, and then from Mrs. Niu to Xiao Tiantian. At first, because its financing amount was good, Multicoin, which was once very popular, led the investment, and the sei official clearly stated that there would be token airdrops on the incentive test network, which attracted many users and robots to participate. According to the data released by sei officials, the test network once had tens of millions of data requests per day.
Then, Sei officially set a requirement for users to do real-name authentication in the Discord channel, which caused an uproar on the entire network. Although platforms such as Galxe and Gitcoin had already required users to do real-name authentication before, it was even more shocking to hear that a public chain required users to do real-name authentication, and the community was ridiculed. Later, Sei denied the requirement for real-name authentication due to public pressure.
The community sentiment has eased, and no longer has expectations for the sei airdrop and its future development. However, sei has become a Binance launchpool project, both within expectations and unexpectedly. It is precisely because of this that the community is full of expectations for the sei airdrop.
However, after the launchpool was announced, sei officials delayed announcing the airdrop, and did not announce it until Binance launched the secondary trading market for sei tokens. This angered the community, and sei officials released the airdrop information a day later. In this article, PANews will explain its airdrop rules, the user groups covered, and the farce involved.
Airdrop rules: Demolishing bridges but gaining fame, testnet participants secretly feel sad
After the airdrop rules were announced, because they involved two types of user groups, and the rules did not specify more specific restrictions, and the airdrop collection interface was not fully developed, it was just a backend interface display, which made the community more confused and directly angered the community. The doubts also forced the sei official to delete multiple discord channels, leaving only a few important channels.
Judging from the two official airdrop rules, the user groups that receive airdrops are divided into two parts: users participating in the incentivized test network and active users of the six major public chains.
According to information released by sei, there are 7 million addresses participating in the incentive testnet, of which the largest witch cluster found is one person holding 30,000 addresses. In addition, a large number of addresses of the same social account and robot addresses that bypass official front-end rules and directly use back-end interactions are also excluded.
Among the qualified addresses, Sei's top ambassadors and addresses that completed all testnet tasks received the most SEI rewards, while addresses that completed fewer tasks only received a small amount of tokens to pay for users' daily interaction costs.
But when qualified Sei incentive testnet participants checked the airdrop amount, they couldn't help but feel that they were being played. Users who completed fewer tasks really only received the gas fee for interaction, and users who completed all testnet tasks only received about 60 SEI tokens.
At the same time, according to official rules, you can get more than 20 SEIs by doing the tweeting task, and you can get 200-400 SEIs by doing the bridge task. However, these two tasks are a choice, and the official has no clear guidance, which led many users to think that they did not have the authority to do the bridge task, so they did the tweeting task, and the number of airdrop tokens dropped sharply by 90%.
This airdrop design made the testnet participants feel sad instantly, especially when compared with the non-participating users who received airdrop amounts that were dozens or hundreds of times larger than their own. The irony was even stronger.
The large amount of money spent has attracted heated discussions across the Internet
In addition to airdrops to testnet users, Sei focuses on airdrops to active addresses of six chains, including Solana, Ethereum, Arbitrum, Polygon, Binance Smart Chain, and Osmosis. In Sei's official words, their airdrops will cover every corner of the Web3 universe.
Subsequently, the Sei Foundation tweeted: Due to strong demand, the Sei Foundation increased the number of eligible wallets for cross-chain airdrops from 500,000 to 1.5 million, including users from Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum, BNB Chain, Solana, Optimism, and Osmosis chains. The number of airdrop targets has been directly increased by 2 times, ranging from active users of mainstream blockchains in 2023. According to community feedback and comparison, the active users referred to here are more likely to be addresses that frequently cross-chain in 2023. The rules for receiving cross-chain assets are to the Sei network.
At first, the community had already lost hope due to Sei's official repeated operations, and did not pay much attention to it. But suddenly someone spread the news that qualified addresses could get 5,000 SEI tokens by opening a treasure chest after crossing the chain. This news was also spread continuously, which attracted the attention of the community. Especially when users in the WeChat community kept posting screenshots of themselves receiving 5,000 SEI tokens and more than 10,000 SEI tokens, the community began to try it. Its popularity has caused ATOM and OSMO tokens of exchanges such as Binance and OK to be borrowed out, especially OSMO tokens, which rose by 20% in a short period of time.
However, not everyone who is eligible for the cross-chain SEI token airdrop will receive 5,000 SEIs, but there is a certain probability. Users can increase the probability of obtaining an epic treasure chest by increasing the amount of cross-chain assets. According to community data feedback, the cross-chain airdrop range is roughly: 20-200 SEIs for $500, 500-5,000 SEIs for $10,000, and 500-13,000 SEIs for $100,000.
Because many users have more qualified addresses, but limited funds or do not want to bear on-chain risks, a proxy collection service has been derived. One person provides cross-bridge funds, and one person provides a qualified address. The SEI collected is divided according to the agreed ratio. At present, because too many people provide this service, the share ratio of the person who provides funds has also dropped from 20% to 10%. Users participating in this cooperation need to improve their security awareness and prevent asset losses, especially the request to provide private keys should be directly rejected.
Steps to receive the bridge:
1. Check whether the wallet meets the requirements: https://sei-check.vercel.app/
2. The SEI airdrop page link corresponds to the wallet: https://app.sei.io/crosschain-airdrop
3. Borrow or purchase OSMO or ATOM tokens corresponding to the cross-bridge quota through exchanges such as Binance or OKX. If you are buying here, try to use hedging to reduce the risk of asset fluctuations;
4. Withdraw assets to keplr wallet;
5. If you are using ATOM tokens, you need to cross-chain to the OSMO chain through the official: https://app.osmosis.zone/assets
6. Cross-chain to SEI chain through Sei official IBC: https://app.sei.io/bridge
7. Click on the airdrop page to receive it, then send a tweet and receive the coins
8. Then cross-chain assets back through Sei official IBC: https://app.sei.io/bridge
Summarize
Judging from the final results, it has to be said that the design of Sei's airdrop has won the appreciation of a wider group of people, attracted the attention of the entire network, and taken all parties into consideration.
From the perspective of users participating in the Sei test network, although the test network airdrop is better than nothing, the airdrops for active addresses of mainstream blockchains have also benefited everyone. The anger in their hearts has gradually subsided, and they have even joined the team to spread Sei.
From the perspective of users who have never cared about or even knew about Sei before, it is really a pie in the sky, so why not do it. As long as you do hedging and on-chain security, you can eat the pie at zero cost and zero risk, especially since many users have many qualified addresses.
From the perspective of Sei officials, first, the form of large-scale coin distribution throughout the network has gained huge traffic and volume. Users who received the airdrop spread the word, especially bloggers with a lot of traffic will compete to promote it, achieving an excellent advertising effect. Second, it is a clear document that the project party itself obtains its own airdrop through information advantage through the form of rat warehouse. Sei's airdrop design, conspiracy theory says, perfectly adds the team's possible rat warehouse address that received the airdrop, and others cannot verify or trace it. Third, users transfer real assets to the Sei network, and a large amount of assets will inevitably remain, which not only improves the asset level of the Sei network and tells a better story, but also paves the way for the initial user group and funds for future Sei ecological projects.
At this time, Sei’s tortuous airdrop is still ongoing and is still being discussed.
