Argentine President Javier Miley has reaffirmed his support for Bitcoin as a tool to revitalize the national economy.
In a statement on X on June 19, Miley announced that Argentina would allow various currencies to compete, including digital assets such as Bitcoin. He declared :
“There will be free competition of currencies. If you want to use Bitcoin, there will be no problem.”
Former VanEck chief executive Gabor Gurbacs welcomed Miley's remarks, saying:
“The world has a lot to learn from the current economic model of Central and South America, led by Argentina and El Salvador.”
Miley's position coincides with his history of defending the crypto industry. During his election campaign, he criticized central banks as a "scam" and advocated using cryptocurrencies to return financial power to the private sector.
In this regard, the crypto community suggests that Miley may follow the example of El Salvador in accepting Bitcoin.
Argentine agencies are collaborating with their counterparts in El Salvador to develop a Bitcoin adoption strategy.
