Ripple (XRP) investors questioned the future of the altcoin on Thursday, perhaps in light of the Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) follow-up to the closure of its Ethereum investigation.
XRP rose slightly on Thursday as activists supporting Ripple expect U.S. regulators to treat it in a similar manner.
Daily Market Brief: Ripple Investors Hope for SEC Change of Attitude: The U.S. SEC has dropped its investigation into Ethereum, Consensys founder Joseph Lubin said on Wednesday.
The XRP community and pro-Ripple attorney Bill Morgan criticized the SEC’s decision, noting that the different treatment of Ethereum and Ripple will highlight the SEC’s arbitrary nature in the crypto space.
Ripple’s CLO Stuart Alderoty questioned the SEC’s treatment of Ethereum. Alderoty called the SEC’s ruling a victory.
Consensys warned, however, that many concerns remain: Does the SEC believe that Consensys’s ETH offering and sales are not securities transactions, or that ETH is not a security? If questioned, what will SEC Chairman Gary Gensler say? Are there any updates on MetaMask and staking?
XRP rose about 1% on Thursday, according to the daily chart. The cryptocurrency is priced at $0.4963 on Binance, up about 1% last week, but down nearly 8% last month.
The MACD line crossed the signal line, and the green bar chart flashed above the neutral line, indicating that XRP is theoretically bullish. This bullish scenario may push Ripple towards the resistance level of the June 5 high of $0.5326.
Ripple's fall below the April 19 low of $0.4665 may overturn the bullish premise. XRP may find support around the June 7 low of $0.4508
