Then, can MATIC get to $1,000? To make a long story short, most likely not. Let's look at the numbers more closely to show why you shouldn't expect Polygon to be worth $1,000.
There are a total of 10 billion pieces in MATIC. If one MATIC token cost $1,000, that would give Polygon a market capitalization of $10 trillion. Let's
Put this number in perspective by looking at the market capitalization of the five most important companies in the world at the time this was written:
Apple: $2,720,000,000,000
$2.29 trillion for Microsoft
1.98 trillion dollars. Saudi Aramco.
Alphabet: $1,366,000,000,000
$1.08 trillion for Amazon.
If Polygon's market value was $10 trillion, it would be worth more than the five most valuable companies in the world put together. We don't need to go into a lot of depth to show that this is a very unlikely thing to happen.
Let's compare what a hypothetical MATIC price of $1,000 would mean in the setting of the cryptocurrency market to prove our point.
In November 2021, the overall value of all cryptocurrencies on the market was just under $2.9 trillion. In the same month, Bitcoin's market capitalization hit its all-time high of $1.22 trillion. So, if MATIC cost $1,000, it would be 8.19 times bigger than Bitcoin at its all-time high.
At the time this was written, the price of MATIC was $0.690, and its market value was $5.52 billion. Please note that the current MATIC market value is based on the 8.01 billion tokens that are in circulation instead of the 10 billion tokens that have ever been made.
For Polygon to cost $1,000, the price would have to go up 1,108 times. Even though this kind of performance isn't unheard of in the cryptocurrency market, it would be very hard for Polygon, which is already worth $5.52 billion, to achieve such a result. That would take a lot of money to be put into Polygon.
The only way it would be possible for Polygon to get to $1,000 is for the MATIC token to be changed. Technically, this could bring the price of 1 MATIC token to $1,000, but investors wouldn't notice much because the overall value of their holdings wouldn't change.
Theoretically, Polygon could also hit a price of $1,000 by burning MATIC tokens, which would drastically reduce the number of tokens in circulation. But in real life, this is not going to happen.
