Crypto hardware wallet maker Trezor introduced three new products on June 14. These are designed to encourage individuals to store their digital assets themselves.
The first product is the Trezor Safe 5 hardware wallet, which allows users to securely store, manage, stake and use thousands of different cryptocurrencies through Trezor's desktop and mobile applications.
The second product is the Bitcoin-only version of hardware wallets, while the third product is the "Trezor Expert" service.
The Bitcoin-only version removes non-Bitcoin features and code and focuses solely on the Bitcoin experience. Trezor Expert, on the other hand, is a personalized service to enable users to set up their wallets correctly and securely.
Trezor devices use open source code, which allows the community to detect bugs and vulnerabilities. However, this may make it easier to resolve stolen devices. Therefore, Trezor Safe 5 is EAL 6+ certified and has tested its ability to withstand sophisticated attacks.
Additionally, the improved backup process allows users to switch from standard single backups to multiple backups using Shamir's secret sharing. This splits the master private key into multiple unique shares. In this case, users determine how many shares they will create and how many are needed to recover the wallet. This system ensures that the wallet is still accessible even if some shares are lost.
