🚨 Binance user loses USD 1 million after being hacked
🇨🇳 A Chinese trader reported having lost USD 1 million after suffering a hack that was applied through a promotional Google Chrome plugin called Aggr. The plugin is used to steal cookies from users and is used by hackers to bypass password verification and two-factor authentication and log into, in this case, the Binance account.
🥷🏽 X CryptoNakamao username claimed that on May 24, his Binance account started trading randomly and he noticed it, coincidentally, after opening the Binance app to check the Bitcoin price. When he wanted to seek help from Binance, the hacker had already withdrawn all the funds.
🗣️ After the episode became known, Yi He, co-founder of the Binance cryptocurrency exchange, dismissed claims that a security incident on the platform was what caused the loss of USD 1 million in cryptocurrencies from the user's account.
"Look closely. This user's account was compromised because their own computer was hacked; they are lost. After the hack, the hacker was unable to withdraw funds, so the hacker sold the victim's coins, causing losses in trading," wrote Binance's Yi He.
