Animoca Brands, Animoca Brands Japan, San FranTokyo and MyAnimeList announced today that they will become launch partners of Anime Foundation, a community-owned anime and manga culture protocol across Web2 and Web3. The collaboration will create new opportunities and experiences for global fans, creators, studios, IP holders, and projects and brands originating from anime.

This strategic collaboration follows Animoca Brands Japan’s 300 million yen strategic investment in MyAnimeList, an anime and manga community website and database with 16 million registered members.

At the same time, Anime Foundation will establish a strategic alliance with Mocaverse, a growth network with an interoperable infrastructure layer for accounts, identities, reputation, and PointFi systems built by Animoca Brands. The strategic alliance will leverage Mocaverse’s recently announced Realm Network interoperability SDK to launch Anime ID. Anime ID is a DID and reputation layer designed to facilitate more users into the Web3 ecosystem.

Anime Foundation will serve as a bridge between the traditional anime industry and Web3 native communities, enhancing fan experience and empowering global anime culture. Anime ID will be at the core of Anime Foundation, providing new monetization models and community building initiatives.

Anime Foundation’s vision is to empower anime and manga creators to create and be paid, and to publish exclusive content that is more accessible. Four strategic partners will leverage their unique strengths to achieve this vision: MyAnimeList and Animoca Brands Japan will leverage industry and community networks to attract talent from the traditional anime industry; Animoca Brands and San FranTokyo will leverage their extensive Web3 ecosystem and blockchain technology and infrastructure to unlock new opportunities for fan engagement.

Through its partnership with Mocaverse, Anime Foundation will launch Anime ID, enabling fans to own a unique on-chain Anime ID, explore, contribute and curate their anime profiles and reputation, and unlock more features in the future. Based on the interoperability infrastructure SDK of Mocaverse's Realm Network account system, Anime ID will share the same login with other Realm IDs (such as Moca ID) and allow community members to customize their unique digital identity domain name (for example: david.anime).

Anime ID users will be able to access a variety of Web3 applications, including GameFi, SocialFi, IP content, and more powered by the Moca Network, which includes Mocaverse partners as well as Animoca Brands and various Web3 projects in its large portfolio. Anime ID users can also earn loyalty points, Realm Points, through participation.

Management Comments

Yat Siu, Co-founder of Animoca Brands, commented: “We are delighted to be a launch partner of Anime Foundation, which we envision will be at the vanguard of global anime culture. Anime Foundation has strong potential to establish itself as a major universal network of on-chain identities, experiences, and economies. Unlike projects that focus on a few IPs or brands, the Foundation will drive the development of a comprehensive and inclusive anime universe, a Web3-powered ecosystem with strong network effects and digital property rights.”

Daisuke Iwase, CEO of Animoca Brands Japan, commented: “We are delighted to be a launch partner of the Anime Foundation and to support it from both a Web2 and Web3 perspective through our industry network. Animoca Brands Japan leverages Web3 technology to provide better fan experience for Japanese IP and content, and our collaboration with the Anime Foundation aims to enrich the global anime community. We look forward to creating exceptional anime content and deepening connections with fans around the world.”

Atsushi Mizoguchi, CEO of MyAnimeList, commented: “We are excited to be one of the launch partners of the Anime Foundation. The projects have diverse goals, but we believe all of them will support the future of Japanese content. Through our partnership with the Anime Foundation, MyAnimeList aims to distribute more manga works globally and discover the next anime works with high potential. We believe this project will help foster existing works and new original works. We will share more details with the community soon.”

David Taing, CEO of San FranTokyo, commented: “The Anime Foundation transcends the boundaries of Web3. Our vision is to foster a vibrant ecosystem that transcends technological boundaries and empowers global anime and manga culture. We also recognize the tremendous value of the traditional sector - from passionate creators, to publishers and distributors who facilitate global distribution, to the fan communities of the works. Today, anime culture transcends the medium itself - our love for the works, characters, stories, and collaborative brands shapes our identity.”

Kenneth Shek, Head of Mocaverse, commented: “We are excited to launch Anime ID with the Anime Foundation as the first Realm Network partner. I believe the Anime Foundation has an opportunity to engage millions of anime fans around the world. The simplicity and interoperability of the Realm Network will greatly promote the cross-pollination of users, culture and utility across the Moca Network. In the near future, Anime ID users can fully explore the world of games, sports, and more, while Moca ID users have access to a wide range of anime applications and IP networks.”
