Here is some information I collected from different websites:

At the start of 2021, the number of cryptocurrencies was just over 4,500 and rose to around 7,500 by the end of the year.

By early 2024, there are about 9,000 active cryptocurrencies on the market. This number excludes many inactive or extinct currencies from the total of more than 20,000 cryptocurrencies listed (Techjury) (DemandSage) (CryptoWinRate). This significant growth in the number of digital currencies over the past decade reflects the dynamic and expanding nature of the digital currency market.

In 2021, the total market capitalization of cryptocurrencies exceeded $2 trillion at its peak, especially during periods of significant price increases for major currencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum.

Currently to date in May 2024, (date of writing this article) the total market cap of cryptocurrencies is approximately $2.5 trillion. This value reflects the continuous changes in the prices of digital currencies and the demand for them in the market.

In 2021, there were about 295 million people trading in digital currencies. Currently, the number of digital currency traders has exceeded 420 million people around the world.

These numbers show significant growth in the number of digital currency traders between 2021 and 2024, reflecting the expansion and growing interest in these digital assets globally.
