Tornado Cash developer Alexey Pertsev was found guilty of money laundering by a Dutch judge at the 's-Hertogenbosch Court on Tuesday.
Pertsev was an accomplice in money laundering with Tornado Cash, a so-called cryptocurrency mixer that makes it difficult to trace transactions.
Prosecutors listed 36 suspected illegal transactions from decentralized protocols to Tornado Cash.
The court sentenced Pertsev to 64 months in prison. After the trial, the 31-year-old Russian was escorted by police to a cell below the court. He will stay here until prosecutors find a suitable prison for his crime in the Netherlands. There were a large number of demonstrators outside the court who wanted Pertsev to be released, believing that he was innocent.
