📢The latest news from Odaily Planet Daily! Douglas Henkin, defense attorney for Terra founder Do Kwon, said at a recent hearing in Manhattan federal court that an anonymous whistleblower from market-making giant Jump Trading Group assisted U.S. federal regulators in filing a fraud lawsuit against Kwon. However, the "Jump Trading whistleblower" admitted during his testimony that he had no direct, first-hand knowledge of the 2021 transactions. Jump Trading declined to comment.
The U.S. SEC previously accused Do Kwon of misleading investors about the stability of his stablecoin TerraUSD. Another of Kwon's attorneys, Mark Califano, said at the hearing that the SEC relied on a whistleblower involving South Korean payments app Chai in another major part of the case. The SEC accused Kwon of deceiving investors by claiming that Chai used the Terra blockchain to settle payment transactions, when in fact it used traditional payment technology.
Califano also said the whistleblower secretly recorded a conversation with a Chai engineer in which they discussed how the app worked. However, Califano noted that the whistleblower was "extremely biased" and said he had been "caught lying multiple times."
🔔It is worth noting that the Montenegrin court has previously approved the extradition of Terra founder Do Kwon to South Korea or the United States, and the Minister of Justice of Montenegro will make the extradition decision. At the same time, a judge allowed Jump Crypto to keep Terra-related documents filed confidentially in the U.S. SEC lawsuit. Let’s wait and see what happens next! 👀
