Bosera International, China Asset Management (Hong Kong), and Harvest International, Hong Kong companies under public funds, successively disclosed on April 15, 2024 that the issuance of virtual asset spot ETF products has been approved in principle by the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission. After approval, the products issued will include not only Bitcoin, but also Ethereum, which has not yet been approved by the US SEC.

However, these announcements seem to precede the official statement of the Hong Kong Securities Regulatory Commission (SFC), which has not yet announced the list of approved issuers, or some of the articles have been deleted due to this. The Hong Kong Securities Regulatory Commission did not respond to emails or calls seeking comment.
QCP Capital, a Singapore-based digital asset trading firm, said it believes the ETFs, once approved in Hong Kong, will unlock some institutional demand during Asian trading hours.
QCP wrote: "Participants who want to invest have been limited to the US session, but now this provides institutional investors with an option based on the Asian time period. We believe this will be bullish in the short term, but there are more important factors and drivers, such as macro events."
