Golden Finance reported that Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in response to a question whether the Indian government would reassess its stance on cryptocurrencies based on the recovery in Bitcoin prices that the Indian government’s stance is that cryptoassets cannot become currencies issued by the central bank. Nirmala clarified that crypto assets can be used for trading, speculation, profit making, and various other purposes. In addition, Nirmala also mentioned that India has raised the issue of cryptocurrency regulation to the G20 and expressed confidence that “some framework will emerge.”
