On March 7, Worldcoin announced the first batch of winners of the community grant program Wave0. Approximately 800,000 WLD will be awarded to 28 projects across five continents, covering innovative solutions around World ID applications, World ID protocols, user agents, new PoP hardware, and more.
This article will briefly compile and introduce the 13 grant projects that have been disclosed so far, giving you a glimpse into how they will further advance the construction of the Worldcoin technology tree (Foresight News Note, as shown in the figure below, the Worldcoin technology tree is a visual representation of the key areas of the project, as well as a subset of potential improvements in these areas).
Voting Solutions Votexx
Votexx is a coercion-resistant voting solution dedicated to bringing a private and secure voting experience to the blockchain world.
Votexx allows users to cancel (or change) their voting choices at any time, ensuring that any user can vote as they wish even under duress. Currently, the government is also promoting the use of this system by crypto project foundations and DAOs.
Data encryption protocol Zanzibar
Zanzibar is a continuously encrypted mixer protocol designed by David Chaum and Mario Yaksetig, whose goal is to continuously re-encrypt lists of data to ensure that servers do not know which data items are stored when they are stored.
The design also supports efficient private lookups, allowing users to privately look up whether an item exists in the database with server permissions, thereby mitigating rainbow table attacks (Foresight News Note: Rainbow table attack is a password cracking technique that pre-calculates and stores a large number of mappings between hash values and corresponding plaintext to speed up the reverse cracking of password hash values).
NEBRA
NEBRA is building the first proof aggregation protocol on Ethereum that will use a general proof aggregation structure to aggregate zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs) for various applications, including but not limited to private identity protection, storage proofs, zero-knowledge machine learning (ZKML), and zkEVM proofs.
NEBRA will work with Worldcoin's relevant contribution teams to introduce proof aggregation protocols into L2 such as Optimism. More specifically, NEBRA builds an L2 optimization protocol based on the NEBRA protocol of the base layer to further reduce the Gas cost of L2 ZKP verification.
UBI New Model Ribbon Protocol
Ribbon Protocol is developing a new model that aims to combine universal basic income (UBI) with universal health coverage, thereby leveraging the health and socioeconomic data of World ID users to enhance the well-being of users around the world.
The protocol rewards users for participating in activities that help assess their needs and connects them with personalized services. Since its inception in 2017, Ribbon Protocol has received support from well-known entities such as Consensys, Blockchain 4 Humanity, and the South African National Department of Health. It is also hailed as one of the top 20 initiatives expected to have a significant impact on the next billion people within the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Privacy Policy xx Network
Privacy is a fundamental human right that is directly related to the unleashing of human potential. The xx Network aims to use Worldcoin’s WalletKit and xx network’s xxDK to comprehensively build a hybrid network technology, cMixx.
The hybrid network technology cMixx, pioneered by renowned cryptographer David Chaum, is one of the most sophisticated hybrid network technologies in the world today, enabling Worldcoin users to use digital applications while protecting their personal data. This integration not only enhances user trust, but also sets a new standard for protecting digital identities against emerging threats such as the abuse of artificial intelligence and quantum computing.
World ID State Replication Protocol Rarimo
Rarimo is making World ID usable on any EVM chain, and thanks to Rarimo’s on-demand cross-chain state replication design, multi-chain use of World ID will also be highly cost-effective.
In the future, even the smallest EVM-compatible chains will be able to directly access WorldID services without financial burden.
Anti-Witch Voting System Wonderland
Wonderland aims to provide a witch-proof voting system based on World ID, where only on-chain addresses verified by orb iris are eligible to participate in the DAO.
It plans to first support the use of this feature to establish a governance system that truly achieves democratic governance, where the minimum viable product (MVP) will focus on creating a scalable governor contract and deploying it for testing. In addition, a user-friendly interface will be developed to provide an intuitive voting experience.
Modular Governance Platform TheVoice
TheVoice is a modular governance platform that combines majority, quadratic, and conviction voting mechanisms, focusing on designing and implementing effective digital governance mechanisms.
It may also impact collective decision-making processes within organizations, both within DAOs and beyond.
Grant Allocation Mechanism Wallfacer
POPGDP (PoP-based Authorized Distribution Portal) launched by Wallfacer aims to assist the Worldcoin Foundation in allocating grants, using World ID to implement a Sybil-resistant voting mechanism and incentivize high-quality user participation.
While grants are a great way to kickstart a project, the process is often cumbersome and plagued by bots and low-quality spam. POPGDP leverages World ID to make the voting and review process for grant allocations transparent, democratic, and immune to manipulation.
Its main features include anti-Witch voting, incentivized participation, efficient processing, and a user-first approach. The team is currently completing the v1 version of POPCDP.
DAO governance platform Clade Club
Clade Club is a platform designed to address the major challenges facing DAOs.
For example, in the current DAO system, since voting rights depend on the number of tokens a voter owns, power ends up being concentrated in the hands of a few people. Clade Club is solving this problem through a unique voting system that emphasizes the quality of people’s contributions to the community in many ways.
The Clade Club creates a vibrant and user-oriented environment through real-time interactive debates, where participants can vote for or against each other's contributions, ensuring that community-informed decision-making is central.
This approach promises to decentralize governance, ensuring the collective wisdom of the community and guiding decision-making based on community contributions.
Merkle Tree Explorer
Merkle Tree Explorer is building a Merkle Tree Explorer that will visualize the Merkle Tree corresponding to the Merkle root committed on the Ethereum blockchain.
All World ID public keys and their construction will be visualized, allowing users to verify the validity of the World ID in an accessible manner and advance decentralization through transparency, verifiability, and flexibility.
Personal Data Monetization Protocol RewardMe
RewardMe aims to revolutionize the way users monetize their daily consumption data by rewarding them with cryptocurrency, thereby injecting power into the decentralized ecosystem created by AI-based Measurable Data Tokens.
In short, RewardMe is committed to creating a safe environment where users can contribute their data without the risk of fraud, and it addresses this challenge with advanced fraud detection measures, which of course, while essential, do sometimes hinder the experience of community users.
To address this issue, RewardMe adopts World ID’s Proof of Person concept (PoP) to effectively combat fake identities, which ensures that every user linked to World ID is a verified unique individual, greatly reducing the possibility of fraud.
At the same time, this integration not only simplifies RewardMe’s daily operations, but also sets a new standard for the user verification process, ultimately allowing it to focus more on rewarding genuine users rather than just fighting fraud.
Orb Assembly Project IDMaster
IDMaster aims to help more people use WorldID, believing that it is a fundamental human right to have an ID that protects privacy, is independent of governments, and gives everyone equal rights.
To achieve this goal, IDMaster is simplifying the process of assembling an Orb. If Orbs can be easily created in a trustless manner around the world, it will be easier for more people to join the World ID Protocol. We plan to complete the first Orb assembly and summarize the lessons learned in March, and share these lessons and our next plans in the following weeks.
