🚨 The developer of Jito, Solana's popular alternative client, made a sudden decision on Friday to discontinue the mempool functionality that was causing costly sandwich attacks on traders.
🔧 Jito Labs announced in a tweet on Friday that the mempool function will be offline tonight. Mempools are where transactions wait before being added to the blockchain. Solana doesn't have mempool, but Jito has method for process ordering.
🔄 This decision comes after Jito lifted the ban on the "pre-running" app just two weeks ago, stating that the restriction was unenforceable, according to messages on the Discord server.
🤖 Pre-running is simply a description of the practice of so-called “sandwich attacks” by trading bots that take advantage of transactions added to the mempool but not yet executed. Before the transaction is executed, the bot extracts value from the trader by “sandwiching” the transaction.
💡 Jito creates and manages an alternative client to process transactions on the Solana blockchain. At last check, more than half validators used it.
📩 Jito representatives did not return a request for comment.
