On May 6, the Central Bank of Argentina said in a statement yesterday that payment platforms are now prohibited from providing digital assets such as Bitcoin to customers in order to reduce user risks. The statement said: "Payment service providers that provide payment accounts are not allowed to conduct or promote transactions with digital assets (including encrypted assets) that are not regulated by national authorities or authorized by the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA)." This means that major platforms including Mercado Libre will no longer be able to provide Bitcoin purchase services to Argentines. (Decrypt)
