• The bridging solution is enhanced with fast finality and improved user experience.

  • Polygon zkEVM mainnet beta went live in March as an open-source, permissionless, and public platform.

Polygon, a scaling solution for Ethereum's layer-2, has announced the integration of a PoS bridge into its zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine (zkEVM) in a statement released on April 26. The Polygon Bridge for zkEVM offers a user experience similar to that of Polygon PoS, with additional features such as a visible progress bar, a transaction panel with colour-coded completion status, a time estimate for pending transactions, and a filter.

It is noteworthy that the zkEVM Polygon Bridge has enhanced finality, enabling users to claim funds on the Ethereum mainnet within 30-60 seconds. The developers also claim that bridges utilizing zero-knowledge technology are superior to their competitors as they rely entirely on smart contracts and do not require any mapping.

‘‘Once a user triggers the bridging transaction, the token being bridged will automatically be mapped. This is a major UX improvement compared to other chains, which require users to map tokens before bridging – a process that can take hours or even days,’’ according to Polygon's statement.

zkEVM enhancing Polygon’s scalability of Ethereum

Polygon achieved a significant milestone in its effort to enhance the scalability of decentralized applications (dApps) built on Ethereum with the recent mainnet beta launch of its zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine (zkEVM). The technology, enabled with zero-knowledge proofs, allows for data validation without revealing the underlying data itself, improving the security and privacy of dApps in a cost-effective and efficient manner, according to Polygon developers.

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin endorsed zkEVM by successfully completing a transaction of 0.005 ETH sent to a random address. Some of the dApps using the technology include Lens and Balancer, while infrastructure providers such as ANKR, The Graph, and Alchemy also utilize the platform.

Polygon has also made progress in other areas related to zero-knowledge technology by introducing a decentralized identity solution that provides developers with the necessary tools to create self-sovereign, decentralized, and private identity solutions based on zero-knowledge proofs.
