12 years ago today, the mysterious individual known as Satoshi Nakamoto wrote one of his last emails to software developer Mike Hearn. Satoshi said he had moved on to other jobs and confidently affirmed that the Bitcoin project had been assigned to good people.

Behind Bitcoin: Satoshi Nakamoto's Last Email

After creating Bitcoin and implementing the initial technology implementation, the mysterious Satoshi Nakamoto disappeared from the public eye in December 2010. The last public message from this mysterious founder was posted on December 12 of the same year, in which Nakamoto emphasized, 'there is still much work to be done on denial of service (DoS) attacks'. Nakamoto then spoke with some of the developers behind Bitcoin including Mike Hearn and Gavin Andresen.

Hearn received an email from Nakamoto on April 23, 2011, titled ‘Hold the coin in a non-consumable state for a certain period of time‘. When asked about the possibility of returning to the Bitcoin community, Satoshi said he had moved on to other jobs and confidently affirmed that the Bitcoin project had been assigned to good people, including Gavin.

The Bitcoin founder also hopes for the seamless development of Bitcoinj – the Java version of Bitcoin created by Mike Hearn, as it allows Java developers to have a tool to work with.

The wish of the founder of Bitcoin

A few days later, Gavin received an email from Satoshi in which the anonymous founder expressed frustration with the way he was negatively portrayed in the press.

“I beg you not to continue talking about me as a mysterious figure in the dark. The press just turned it into the pirates' monetary angle. Instead, focus on open source projects and contribute more to developers, this will motivate them.” This is said to be the last email from Bitcoin's mysterious founder to the community.

Nakamoto wants the press to focus on Bitcoin's open source development instead of just mentioning the founder who is considered "a mysterious figure".

On March 7, 2014, there was speculation when a Newsweek article claimed that the founder of Bitcoin was a 64-year-old Japanese-American named Dorian Nakamoto. However, a message believed to be from Satoshi appeared on the online forum P2P Foundation, saying 'I am not Dorian Nakamoto'.

There have been no further messages from the Bitcoin founder since then, and the emails to Hearn and Andresen remain an emotional reminder of Satoshi's absence for nearly 10 years.
