According to Foresight News, Layer1 blockchain Zilliqa announced that it will achieve EVM compatibility on the mainnet on April 25 and lay the foundation for Zilliqa 2.0. EVM compatibility will allow users to transfer ZIL tokens locally using EVM DApps and wallets. After the first full version of EVM compatibility is implemented, it will be expanded in subsequent mainnet upgrades to include full interoperability between Scilla and Solidity standards for fungible tokens, NFTs, etc. Zilliqa 2.0 is being developed with the EVM compatibility feature and will retain all the features of the current version of the Zilliqa network, including full EVM compatibility, while bringing significant improvements to network performance and practicality. Zilliqa 2.0 will provide faster finality and better scalability through a new and improved sharding system.

Currently, work on Zilliqa 2.0 has begun, and the network upgrade is still in the early stages of development. New features of Zilliqa 2.0 include using Fast-HotStuff's production blockchain and establishing a programmer model for Zilliqa 2.0. All content in Zilliqa 2.0 is a smart contract called by the underlying blockchain, and a new, programmable decentralized sharding system is implemented on this basis, after which the network upgrade will begin to be rolled out to the development network for iteration and testing. Zilliqa 2.0 has an encryption key for each shard, and will consider using zero-knowledge technology to allow partial sharing between shards and the main network or between shards. In addition, other features of Zilliqa 2.0 include traders that allow validators and miners to undertake value-added work, such as checking contracts, parallel transaction execution, on-chain accounts, payers, proxy Gas, and more.
