A successful analytics company called Chainalytics announced in its annual report that it discovered that hackers from the North Korean Lazarus Hack group were using the Bitcoin mixer YoMix platform to launder stolen cryptocurrencies.
YoMix has garnered attention by recording tremendous growth, with total listings increasing more than fivefold in 2023. Sanctions imposed on crypto mixers such as Tornado Cash and Sinbad caused hackers to turn to YoMix.
Chainalysis officials included the following statements on the subject in their annual reports:
“Nearly one-third of YoMix logins came from wallets associated with crypto hacks. "YoMix's growth and adoption by Lazarus Group best demonstrates the ability of advanced actors to find a replacement for obfuscation services when previously popular ones are shut down."
North Korea-linked hackers are also adopting various obfuscation techniques using cross-chain bridges. Hackers are discovering new ways to cover their tracks every day.
Although the Bitcoin mixer YoMix is expected to be banned in the coming period, the possibility of hackers finding new methods seems quite high.
