The news comes after Musk decided to rename Twitter Inc. to X Corp.

Twitter and Tesla CEO Elon Musk has formed a new company that appears to be aimed at developing artificial intelligence (AI), according to a recent company filing.

The company will be led by Musk

The relevant document, dated March 9 but recently made public, lists Musk as a director of a company called X.AI. It also lists Musk’s assistant Jared Birchall as secretary.

It also states that X.AI has been incorporated in Nevada and that the company currently has $100,000 in capital.

The document does not mention any other employees or company initiatives, nor does it explicitly say the company will work with AI beyond what is implied in the name.

The letter "X" is used in several of Musk's business ventures. Twitter Inc. recently changed its name to X Corp., which in turn is owned by another company called X Holding Corp. These decisions appear to be part of Musk's plan to create an "everything app" called X, which will merge social networking and payment tools.

The "X" naming trend can be traced back to Musk's early financial company X.com, which was founded in 1999 and renamed PayPal in 2000.

Musk's relationship with artificial intelligence

Musk has a long history in the artificial intelligence industry. He founded OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, in 2015 but left the company in 2018.

Recent reports in February indicated that Musk had recruited Igor Babuschkin, formerly of Google’s Deepmind AI division, to develop an alternative to ChatGPT.

Despite his interest in AI, Musk was one of several experts who signed a letter urging temporary restrictions on AI training. The letter said such restrictions would help avoid any unknown risks and ensure "a long AI summer."

There is no indication that Musk’s AI work will use cryptocurrency. In fact, Musk said in March that he is now more interested in AI than cryptocurrency, although it is unclear whether the statement was a joke.

Musk has not yet commented publicly on the new company, X.AI.
