South Korean Web3 game development platform and NFT marketplace PlayDapp announced on February 13 that it was shutting down its smart contract and taking screenshots for migration. First noticed on February 9, the issue arose when 200 million PLA tokens (worth $31 million) were minted. PlayDapp published a message aimed at the thief on February 10, offering rewards for the return of stolen contracts and assets.
The reward is set at $1 million if contracts and assets are returned by February 13. Elliptic stated that the wallets associated with the thief were tagged. PlayDapp said in a statement on Medium that it was working with blockchain analytics and security firms, centralized exchanges and law enforcement to mitigate the damages of the hack.
The value of PLA fell from $0.1823 on the morning of February 9 to $0.1482 currently. In 2021, PlayDapp introduced the game Along with the Gods on the Polygon blockchain. The gaming service was shut down in May 2023 as "unsustainable". NFTs from the game are still available on the PlayDapp website. What do you think this means for PlayDapp and the NFT market?
