DeFiChain printed 184.47B $DFI by charging the attacker one satoshi. The developers say they won't fix it. The price is up about 70% today.
On Nov 3 an overflow bug in account-to-account transfers took 1 satoshi from the sender and credited the full amount anyway. Two addresses ended up with about 92.23B DFI each. The intended max supply is 1.3B. The ledger now holds roughly 142 coins for every one that was ever supposed to exist.
92.23B isn't a round number somebody picked. 2^63 satoshis works out to 92,233,720,368 DFI, the largest value a signed 64-bit integer can hold. Our read: the attacker went straight to the ceiling. Twice.
The devs who were asked said a patch or rollback isn't worth the effort. Bitrue suspended DFI deposits and the DFI/USDT pair.
On paper those two wallets hold about $373M of DFI. The whole coin's market cap is under $2M, and 24h volume is around $95.
That 70% green candle is printed on a ledger nobody is maintaining.
