After U.S. stocks suffered their worst single-day selloff since 2025 on Thursday, American retail investors, long known for eagerly buying the dip, returned to the market on Friday, hoping to seize an opportunity to profit from a rebound after the tech-stock rout.
However, unlike market pullbacks in recent years, retail investors showed noticeably less enthusiasm for buying the dip this time. Although battered tech stocks such as Nvidia($NVDA ) and Intel($INTC ) attracted some buying, ongoing geopolitical risks and concerns related to artificial intelligence (AI) kept investors cautious even as the market rebounded. Net buying of Nasdaq 100 Index $QQQ constituents was relatively modest and weakened further afterward.
