North Korea! A country where even ordinary people are restricted from accessing the internet, yet it trains a group of elite hackers!
How does it train hackers?
Reuters revealed a detail on November 6: North Korea selects 150 to 200 bright students from middle schools each year and focuses on training them as computer experts.
Selection starts at age 11 or 12. Around age 17, the top students go on to receive further training at elite universities, and in the end, only a few make it into the military cyberattack unit.
What do they study?
Math, computer science, cryptocurrency technology, and even how to hack foreign hardware.
According to reports, successful hackers may receive cash rewards in U.S. dollars and even be given an apartment in Pyongyang.
Some of the proceeds from successful operations may also be distributed proportionally to the relevant military units.
Now you get it, right?
This isn’t a few young people coding away in a rented apartment. There’s an entire system in place, from recruitment and training to execution.
In the Binance cryptocurrency theft worth $6.3 billion, the FBI pointed the finger at North Korea’s TraderTraitor group. But North Korea has publicly denied involvement.
