Why Is Bitcoin Lagging While Chip Stocks Surge? 📉

U.S. jobs data beat expectations, and a rebound in U.S. stocks lifted semiconductor shares—but Bitcoin failed to benefit.

The U.S. October jobs report blew past expectations, with the unemployment rate hitting a new low and wage growth exceeding forecasts. Wall Street expected it to spark a stock market rally. The Nasdaq rose 2%, and the chip ETF jumped 6.5%. But Bitcoin seemed forgotten, trading sideways near $75,764 and slipping slightly. This is unusual, since U.S. stocks and tech shares often boost sentiment toward risk assets.

Impact analysis
- Short term: Such strong jobs data should theoretically strengthen expectations of Fed rate hikes, putting pressure on high-risk assets like Bitcoin. Meanwhile, chip stocks have surged so sharply that funds may be flowing out of other sectors, such as crypto, which took a beating last week. South Korea is one of the world’s most active crypto trading markets; local funds pulling out could add selling pressure on BTC.
- Medium term: If U.S. stocks remain strong, Bitcoin may need more powerful catalysts to break through resistance at $77,000. But as long as jobs data stays strong, the dollar will strengthen, and Bitcoin’s next move higher will depend on whether a new narrative emerges.

My take
The stronger-than-expected jobs data is bearish for Bitcoin, but the short-term downside may be limited, mainly because the market hasn’t fully priced in expectations of Fed rate hikes. Around $75,000 is a key support level, but if next week’s data is strong again, Bitcoin may have to test $74,000. Don’t be too harsh if I’m wrong—I’m only trying this with a small position.
