The Danish government sent €9.5 million to a shell company for the supply of ammunition to Ukraine, but the weapons were never delivered.
The payment was made after former Danish Minister of Defence Troels Lund Poulsen agreed with his Estonian counterpart, Hanno Pevkur, to transfer 317 million kroner to Estonia’s artillery fund.
The funds eventually ended up with the Italian firm Datasel, which is officially listed as a software developer. The company’s registered address is the same as that of an Audi dealership, and its website was filled with screenshots from the video game Ace Combat 6 and AI-generated images.
Frederik Waage, a professor of constitutional law at the University of Southern Denmark, called for the National Audit Office to investigate the case. Minister Hanno Pevkur himself lost his position on September 3 amid the scandal. In total, fraudsters received €71 million from Estonia.
