Democrats sweep both chambers of Congress, fueling continued market optimism as gold keeps hitting new highs ahead of nonfarm payrolls!

Gold surged to 4,146 today before quickly retreating, with prices entering a high-level consolidation phase around midday.

The key drivers behind this strong rally are clear: the election results exceeded expectations, and Democratic control of Congress dampened expectations for further fiscal expansion, directly weakening the dollar and pushing Treasury yields lower. The U.S. Dollar Index fell to a monthly low, while the 10-year Treasury yield retreated to 4.89%, helping gold climb from 3,870 to a high of 4,146.

But the market needs to keep a level head: the election boost is a short-term sentiment factor that will play out gradually. The probability of a Fed rate hike in December remains elevated at 78.9%, and the hawkish monetary policy stance has not changed.

Tonight’s initial jobless claims will offer an early preview, but Friday’s nonfarm payrolls report will be the real market trigger.
