🏦 Old-school finance enters crypto: British giant launches a bond fund on the blockchain
Imagine a company that manages $1.1 trillion. That’s the budget of a respectable-sized country. Schroders, a British investment “dinosaur,” has now launched its emerging markets bond fund on the Solana blockchain.
What are these bonds? They are debt issued by governments and companies in emerging markets. Investors lend them money and earn interest. The fund pools these debts into a single “basket,” which is managed by investment professionals.
What’s the big deal? You can now hold a stake in a fund as a token, rather than as a paper contract. Less bureaucracy, faster transactions, more transparent record-keeping.
Why does this matter? Until now, the products brought onto the blockchain were mostly “boring” ones: money market funds and short-term government bonds. This is a complex, actively managed strategy. New York Life did the same thing earlier with its high-yield bond fund, so this is already becoming a trend.
What you need to know
🔹 The launch was carried out through the Centrifuge platform, not by Schroders “going it alone.”
🔹 You receive a tokenized stake in a feeder fund, not a token “out of thin air.”
🔹 The entry requirements have not yet been disclosed; you may need to qualify as an accredited investor.
🔹 SOL’s price isn’t guaranteed to surge after news like this. The coin remains far below its all-time highs.
Bottom line: Traditional finance is moving onto the blockchain with increasing confidence. For the average person, this is more a sign of what’s to come than an investment opportunity they can take advantage of tomorrow.
This is not investment advice.
