Just one jobs report could change the course of the entire market. This Friday, investors will scrutinize every number.
The U.S. October nonfarm payrolls report is expected to be released on November 6 at 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time. Markets are looking for clues about employment strength, wage inflation, and the Federal Reserve’s next decision.
The latest report, for September, recorded just 29,000 new jobs, while the unemployment rate remained at 4.2%. Average hourly earnings rose 3% year over year.
But there’s another aspect to consider. In September, job openings reached 7.5 million, while layoffs remained relatively low, suggesting the labor market has not collapsed.
Meanwhile, interest-rate markets are pricing in a much tighter outlook for December, making it increasingly difficult to justify an immediate rate cut.
My view: a disappointing NFP report could revive expectations of monetary easing and potentially support risk assets such as Bitcoin. Conversely, stronger job and wage growth could reinforce the view that interest rates will remain higher for longer.
The key issue is not simply whether employment rises or falls. It’s whether labor-market weakness becomes pronounced enough to shift the Fed’s priorities away from inflation.
Friday’s figures could reshape expectations, but a single report can rarely tell the whole story.
Will October’s NFP report rekindle optimism about rate cuts, or reinforce the Fed’s hawkish stance?
