On November 5, Coinbase announced on X that Coinbase Prime was opening regulated global options and perpetuals to institutions in the U.S. and other eligible regions, with U.S. and global traders sharing a single liquidity pool. More than 20 assets are available to trade, including $BTC , $ETH , and $SOL , with BTC, ETH, and USDC accepted as collateral.

According to PANews, liquidity is provided by Deribit. This makes Coinbase Prime look more like a compliant gateway, while the depth remains on Deribit’s side: U.S. institutions aren’t getting a new market, but a route into the existing global order book, with access and compliance handled on the U.S. side.

At launch, only three types of collateral are accepted, with more to be added later, according to the announcement. The next thing to watch is trading volume: after a few weeks of a unified order book, any clear increase in open interest and trading volume on Deribit will show how much incremental activity U.S. institutions are bringing.
