🕵️ FBI points to North Korea: $6 billion stolen from Binance, with the proceeds being converted into ETH?

On October 31, the FBI issued a cyber alert stating that North Korea was responsible for the theft of more than $6 billion in virtual assets from Binance around October 29. The agency dubbed the operation “TraderTraitor.” The AP reported that the group was the same one behind last year’s $1.5 billion Bybit incident.

📋 What did the FBI disclose?
• The FBI, the U.S. Secret Service (USSS), and the IRS Criminal Investigation division (IRS-CI) observed that the stolen assets were primarily being converted into ETH
• The funds are expected to be laundered further through DeFi and instant-exchange services
• THORNode, RPC node operators, instant exchanges, DeFi services, and blockchain analytics firms were urged to block transactions connected to or derived from the associated addresses
• The list includes hundreds of Ethereum addresses, 19 Bitcoin addresses, and 1 Solana address

⚖️ Two points to keep in mind
• North Korea has neither admitted nor denied involvement
• Whether “blocking derived funds” can be effectively enforced depends on the cooperation of various permissionless services

📉 What does this mean for the market?
The stolen funds being converted largely into ETH could make on-chain selling pressure and regulatory scrutiny short-term variables for ETH. ETH is currently around $2,264, with a 24-hour trading range of $2,241–$2,309. The low for the past two weeks was around $2,174, while key resistance is near $2,390; a break below $2,174 would raise concerns about further weakness.
