According to the Financial Times, the hackers behind last week’s US$6.3 billion theft from Binance could need months to launder the stolen cryptocurrency, with approximately US$3.3 billion still under their control. Laundering such large volumes without crashing the value of the stolen tokens or triggering immediate alerts means splitting transactions into small amounts over an extended period.

To conceal the trail of most of the transactions, the hackers are turning to cryptocurrency mixers, decentralized finance, and OTC desks. The FBI and international agencies are actively monitoring the addresses of the wallets involved to ask exchanges to block any attempted deposits.

💥Binance said the hackers used a fake job interview to hack an employee and gain access to its internal cryptocurrency wallets. 🙈🙉🙊
