BINANCE REVEALED HOW IT WAS HACKED IN THE THEFT THAT BECAME THE BIGGEST IN HISTORY
How did the hackers do it, and what can we learn from all this⁉️
🚨 In June, a Binance engineer Googled an AI coding tool. He clicked on an ad and downloaded a fake version.
▪️ Binance detected it in time and replaced his computer. But the hackers had already uncovered something key: who worked with Binance’s wallets.
▪️ In September, they targeted another engineer on that team.
▪️ A fake recruiter contacted him on a legitimate job platform and interviewed him over video and chat to “hire” him.
👉 In the end, the recruiter asked him to complete a “technical test”: a file to download and open on his work computer. Inside was a new virus that no antivirus program could detect.
🚨 Using that infected computer, the hackers gained access to an internal Binance tool. From there, they reached two more engineers and stole a permission that let them operate the wallet system.
🧨 On October 29, they used that permission: in about 20 minutes, they made off with $6.34 billion.
🎯 Who was behind it?
▪️ The FBI confirmed it was TraderTraitor, a North Korean hacker group.
▪️ It’s the same group that stole $1.5 billion from Bybit in 2025.
▪️ Fake job offers are their favorite method.
📍 Binance has already replenished 98% of the funds with its own money, so users won’t lose anything.
📍 But there’s a lesson for everyone: if it happened to engineers at the world’s largest exchange, it could happen to anyone.
📍 Never download files from strangers, no matter how good the offer seems...
