I just came across a post saying that CFTC Chair Selig announced single-stock perpetual futures can now be listed on regulated exchanges in the U.S. Apparently, this is a first.
My first reaction: This kind of trading has mostly been on on-chain platforms like Hyperliquid and offshore exchanges. Now it’s being brought back under the U.S. regulatory framework. But he didn’t say which exchange will list them first, which stocks will be covered, or when, so for now it’s more like “the door is open,” not “you can trade them tomorrow.”
Perpetuals come with leverage and no expiration date to begin with, so I’d be very cautious about trading them on individual stocks. BTC perpetuals were approved earlier this year, so this feels like another step in that direction. DYOR.
Would you try regulated stock perpetuals, or stick with on-chain platforms?
