The hackers staged an elaborate act: they created a fake company, conducted two rounds of interviews with an exchange engineer, and asked him to complete a technical assignment. But instead of testing his skills, it contained malicious code.
Then the real corporate nightmare began: the attackers gained access to other employees’ computers and reached the system used to sign cryptocurrency transactions.
🤯 And the worst part? This wasn’t improvised. The preparation took several months, and the first traces of the attack were discovered back in June.
Binance says it is fully covering the financial losses with its own funds and reserves, which are backed by more than 100%. As of November 3, about 98% of the affected tokens had been recovered. The vulnerable systems have also been rebuilt and their defenses strengthened.
The takeaway: these days, checking a candidate’s résumé isn’t enough. You also need to check who’s conducting the interview. And preferably, don’t download gifts from them. 😁
