October ended with a significant wave of turbulence for the crypto market. While Bitcoin showed relative resilience, Ethereum and the altcoin sector came under considerable pressure.
We recap the month and examine the key factors that shaped the current landscape.
📉 1. Record outflows from Ethereum ETFs ($1.61 billion)
According to SoSoValue, U.S. spot Ethereum ETFs recorded their largest monthly outflow ever — $1.61 billion.
The biggest hit was taken by BlackRock’s iShares Ethereum Trust (ETHA), which saw $1.42 billion in outflows.
Only a few funds (including Fidelity) managed to stay slightly in the green.
Price impact: $ETH lost more than 16% over the month, falling to local lows near $2,150 toward the end of October. Institutional players are clearly in Risk-Off mode, negatively affecting altcoin liquidity.
🟧 2. Bitcoin ETFs: Profit-taking as the month came to a close
Spot BTC ETFs ended October down $515.03 million (their fifth negative month in 2026):
Despite a strong mid-month and inflows into IBIT (+$931.8 million), heavy capital outflows from Fidelity (FBTC) and ARK (ARKB) toward the end of the month pushed the overall balance into negative territory.
The price of $BTC fell from peaks above $84,000 to the $77,000–$77,500 range.
⚖️ 3. Altcoin imbalance: BNB vs. SOL
The altcoin segment showed a clear divide:
BNB ETFs led the month in capital inflows, attracting nearly +$98.61 million, which helped keep the coin above $700. NEAR, XRP, and LINK also maintained positive momentum.
SOL ETFs saw the largest losses among altcoins, with outflows totaling $143.71 million.
⚡ 4. Panic factor: Binance force majeure incident
The last days of October were marked by FUD amid news of a hack attack on Binance (losses are estimated at ~$6.3 billion due to the compromise of keys/access systems).
Thanks to a swift response, the freezing of ~$3 billion in stablecoins, and confirmation that losses would be covered through the SAFU fund, the panic was brought under control. However, the incident itself triggered a cascade of outflows from ETFs on October 30, dashing hopes for a traditional “Uptober” rally.
📌 What does this mean?
Institutions are waiting: Record ETH outflows indicate that big money is reassessing risks amid macroeconomic uncertainty.
Support levels: For the market to regain bullish momentum, daily inflows into spot ETFs need to stabilize during the first weeks of November.
Discipline: Periods like this call for strict risk management, minimizing leverage, and focusing on fundamentally resilient assets.
